GS2 Awards, a wholesale source for laser engraving materials, recently celebrated the opening of its Beyond the Beam Learning Center in Boulder, Colorado. The learning center is an extension of the GS2 Awards business, offering demo days, open houses, and multi-day workshops where participants can learn about laser engraving and sandcarving, as well as blazering — a combination of the two.
In March, producers can take part in a hands-on, two-day technical seminar, Blazering: Extended Merging Technologies, which explores the innovative fusion of laser engraving and sandcarving. Seminar participants will gain insight into how to upsell customers by transitioning from laser etching to the deep-carve capabilities of a sandcarver. Participants will also work with substrates traditionally considered challenging for lasers, such as polished metals and hard ceramic glazes.
Attendees can expect to learn techniques from each technology, including:
Sandcarving
- Working with photoresist films
- Halftone images
- Deep-carve techniques
Laser Engraving
- Using BlazerOrange masking material
- Working with flat and curved substrates
- Stone lasering do’s and don’ts
Led by GS2 Awards and IKONICS Imaging, the March 27-28 class will include a walkthrough of Trotec laser setup and hands-on sandblasting using IKONICS Imaging sandcarving equipment. Space is limited to 40 students, and early bird registration ends Feb. 28.
