It's become increasingly obvious that artificial intelligence (AI) governance is not optional for the printing and packaging industry. Within the sector, AI tools are already used for everything from customer communications to production workflow, having direct impacts on business operations.
Changes outside of the industry underscore the shift from technology discussion to business requirement. In 2025 alone, for instance, there were more than 1,000 AI-related bills introduced across the United States. At the federal level, there has been increased attention to privacy, cybersecurity, transparency, and accountability. Further pressure comes from international measures such as the EU's AI Act.
What's clear is that print and packaging providers can't wait to see how things will pan out. If they do, they will fall behind.
In an article for PRINTING United Alliance, Amy Servi-Bonner and Stephanie Buka outline what the printing and packaging industry must be doing, plus several resources that can support companies on their AI journeys. Read the article here.
