The Value of Coating for Digital Prints

There are several reasons why it is important to finish your digital prints with coating.

Consistency: Since the gloss of the toner/ink is not exactly the same as the substrate, a coating will provide a consistent look across the sheet. Coating will also provide the same gloss levels where there is toner/ink, and where there is none.

Gloss Levels: Coatings can provide Super High Gloss or Ultra Matte appearances beyond what the inks alone can accomplish.

Special Effects: Specialty coatings can provide a unique look and feel, and enhance the look of digital prints. 

End Use Requirements: End users sometimes require a specified CoF / Slide Angle, which requires a coating.

Protection: Coatings provide protection to the sheets with scratch and rub resistance, so the prints will look as good in the hands of the end user as they do coming off the press.
